The Great Big Update - Part 2

Toe Jam & Earl Gets Funded

I loved the original Toe Jam & Earl and it's no surprise then that I've played all three games. So when I learned that a kickstarter was going on to produce a new TJ&E game I was threw my cash in (well, enough to get the game at least). I'm so glad that it got funded and with a bunch of nice features added into the mix (mostly characters and skins). The promotional game video looks much like the original but with a more character cutout look to it and I like the style they've chosen. Best of all, the website for the game allows you to pre-order various merchandise to also help in funding. Very nice indeed.

The End Times - The End...

So the End Times have come and gone, my thoughts? Meh.

I guess it was alright or perhaps it was all the 9th edition rumors that lead to it not being as effecting me like it should of. To be truthful, the whole 'world ending into nothing' was a major disappointment. For me, it felt like this was the end of Warhammer, but for good. Games-Workshop will really need to pull off some amazing writing in order to convince fans to stay for this 'new' Warhammer. Perhaps later on I'll better explain myself. As for reviewing the final book in the novel series, I don't know.

DBZ: Battle Of Gods

So finally got around to watching this movie and it was enjoyable for the most part. Truthfully, it felt more like a collection of episodes as oppose to a movie, but it was still very enjoyable with a few funny moments in it. My only actual complain would be the animation/cinematography, mostly the fight scene. I don't like the digital scenes with the characters flying through the city. Something about that one in particular just didn't feel right and visually it felt so out of place, like they were just standing around and the city was moving instead. I don't know, but it just really annoyed me for some reason.

It also contained an extra showing snippets of the English voice recording sessions. Most might skip over that, but for me it's another insight into voice acting and what goes on. Should see if I can find more of these voice acting behind the scenes videos.

Projects

Yeah, not much has happened on this front. I'm trying to create a cobblestone style base for my next set of mouslings, but should have really looked up a few guides before trying to attempt it. As for GW miniatures, it's been real slow, partly due to heat, but mostly motivation. Partially blame GW for that with the downer this whole End Times event brought. I'm considering doing the other four remaining Empire Wizards (since they were fun to work on) and am still trying to find that Skaven Assassin with fighting claws for my Mordheim group, but again, more on that later.

Photography has also been up in the air (again depression/motivation), but lately the weather has been bad that I've been unable to go to a few of the places I have wanted to take photos at. Hopefully in the next few weeks I'll get that chance.

9th Edition

I won't talk anymore on 9th edition until I see anything more worth talking about. I've felt too much of a sting on this subject and I'll wait to see if GW can salvage it or hammer in it's final nail.

The Great Big Update - Part 1

As promised, this is probably the first of a couple of Blog updates that are well overdue. Basically, it's a set of short articles that should have been put up earlier, but as explained in the previous post it didn't get done.

Adeptus Mechanicus Skitarii Rangers

So, Games-Workshop finally releases pictures of some nice looking 40K miniatures that gets my interest and then destroys that by having them as a $66 box set instead of being singular or a small set. Are these guys a troop choice cause $66 seems a bit pricey for a troop choice (oh who am I kidding, Stormvermin were are core choice and they cost $83 for a box of them - that's pricey). Who knows, perhaps they'll show up separately on Ebay cause I wouldn't mind one or two of them for the Inquisitorial Warbands I'm working on.

Birthday

Yep, my Birthday was this month and there's nothing more depressing then another reminder that you're a year older and not much has changed (For the record, I'm now 32....sad isn't it). Alright, it wasn't that bad and the day itself was busy and enjoyable. My brother did get me the Civilization V collection and I did get myself the X-COM: Enemy Unknown + all DLC. I've played a number of Civ matches now and it's very addictive and I admit I've never played a Civilization game until now and they are great fun. I usually prefer to win via Cultural Victory as I'm not the type of person to build large armies and go conquering.

As for X-COM, the game is fun and it a little difficult for me (I tend to accidentally get my troops into all sorts of trouble). I have learned one very important lesson though: Never name your solderers. I named mine after characters I've created over the years so when I finally lost one of them it really hurt, eventually leading to me being too paranoid in loosing any of them. I found if I didn't name them, I took more risks. Man loosing some of my favourite characters really hurt.

Ross Noble - Tangentleman

So around two years ago (I think) I saw Ross Noble on the Gold Coast at his Mindblender show. It was fantastic and for the first time in a long time had I never felt happier. I laughed so hard I panicked at one point that I'd have to leave the show in an ambulance due to my Asthma. It was brilliant. So it was no surprise then that I'd save a bunch of money and go see him on his next tour. So, was it good.

Yes, for the most part. I'm actually surprised that the Brisbane Qpac show area didn't feel as good as the Gold Coast arts one, not sure why this was. Maybe the Wicked show had the better stage area, who knows. Sadly my seating area also came with a guy complaining about getting back to what Ross was previously talking about (have you never seen Ross Noble before mate? That's what he does) and a guy a few seats down with a loud annoying laugh who was either stupid or drunk (probably both) who clearly had no respect for those watching the show around him.

This tour also was a fundraiser for a charity called Riders. The money from merchandise went to it along with the money you could give in the donation buckets they had there. I bought the merchandise pack and donated extra as well. A good laugh and a good cause all in one. Overall, a great night.

Lack Of Anything?

So you might of notice another lack of updates and yeah, expect this to be a regular thing. This is one of a list of things as a result of depression and lack of motivation. That said, I'll probably throw up a few updates in the next day or so in the hopes it might kick in my motivation spark. If not, well at least something got put up then.

She's Armed And Ready

The pictures promised are now finally uploaded.

Cowgirl Mousling is one of those miniatures that I just couldn't decide what kind of paint scheme to use, serious or fun? So I went with a mixture of both. I feel she's probably a fun-lovin gal, but get on her bad side and you'll regret it.
Having played the early access version of Mordheim, it only encouraged me to continue with the warband. The Grey Seer release made this new start easy, focusing on one of the few characters in the game that ends up in rather bizar situations (the other being the Rat Ogre). After a few touch ups, I'll get it paint it and see if the hood idea was any good.

Darkest Dungeon

So I've started playing the early access version of Darkest Dungeon and I am really liking it. The story is simple enough, your part of a family who was away when they decided to investigate the darker aspects of their castle manor. They obviously unlock the gateway to madness and your recalled to reclaim your heritage and fix the damage done. Your not a fighter however, so instead you guide adventurers through dungeons, fighting the various horrors, trying to survive against madness and death. It is not easy.

The game has a dark setting, with low light and a dark art style. The music also emphasises this and it's wonderful. Gameplay involves picking four adventurers, give them some supplies and enter a dungeon to achieve an objective. Success means getting heirlooms to upgrade parts of the town and gold to help with things such as supplies, stress relief, cure ailments and upgrading adventurers. The game is hard however. You'll find you never have enough gold to keep up with the removal of stress and negative effects, upgrades and supplies. This means your sending in new adventurers into dangerous situations in order to grind money. People will die and they don't come back. Too much stress in a dungeon will cause that adventurer to take a test, usually resulting in a serious breakdown, though sometimes a heroic feat. Once they loose it, then the real problems occur. They can upset their party (causing them stress), can refuse heals, refuse to move positions (and there are monsters which will knock your party out of position as does being surprised) and will sometimes refuse to preform an action or even do an action of their choice. This can really screw you over in fights. If things go too badly you will be forced to abandoned the quest, which has a number of negatives, though all remaining party members will survive.

This is what I like about this game. I like the whole role-playing, the dungeon runs, fighting the various evils and horrors. However, most such things never seem to have any real effect on those involved. I mean, how many times does one enter a dark place of horror, see insane things, battle nightmarish creatures and come out of it like it was just an everyday thing? All the time it seems. As an adventurer keeps doing these runs, they earn positive (increase stress resistance) and negative (fear of beasts) effects which will effect how they act in the future. You can cure some of the negatives, but it takes time and money to remove each one and rarely will you do it as you need to manage what is worth spending on.

This game can be very frustrating at times. I've had battles where my party keeps missing attacks or refusing to do things that have cost them. If you get really angry when playing games, you may want to skip this, but if you are patient and can spend the time then you may enjoy it. Either way, I am loving it and it's given me a few new ideas for some stories.

Project Update 15/02/15

So, this one is an update to the one below, but this one is about the next set of miniatures to paint. These are the following:

+Helstorm Rocket Battery (Really beginning to hate painting Empire troops)
+Mousling Barman and Barmaid
+Ork Painboy (getting motivated to finish him is hard)
+Mordheim Eshin Sorcerer
+Mordheim Eshin Rat Ogre (just a touch up, can't remember the original colours used on him and am not risking a paint over)

Again, this is just a planned list. I've tried pushing myself to get things done, but it's had a negative effect on me. If I can get a few miniatures here or there that I can paint up just for fun, then I probably will (I do have a box of Tzeentch's Horrors, maybe I'll just go nuts and do some wacky colours with them instead of the usual Pink Horror scheme).

Project Update - 8/2/15

So cannon crew just need some snow flock and they're done. I am not happy with the way they look, but if I attempt to fix them it'll all go to crap. The cowgirl mousling is also just about done, with just a few minor touch ups and some dried grass flock to add.

Going to be house sitting for the next few days so pics won't be out till end of week. One pic that will be added is the Eshin sorcerer conversion, which is far as I'm concerned is now converted. My green stuff skills is still as bad as ever, but for now it's done enough to now focus on the painting of it. Hopefully I'll do better at that then I did with the green stuff.

I really need to start looking for new paints. These Games-Workshop ones just haven't been as good as they used to be. That and I need to just focus on painting things for fun, meaning I need to start looking around for fun miniatures to paint.

Update: 15/2/15
Good lord I hate my life. So things this week have not gone at all to plan. I have the photos at least, but since my camera now refuses to connect to my PC (and I have no card reader on it) I now have to go through a series of tasks just to get those pictures onto this PC. Having had a number of bad events this week, that will now take longer then expected. I'm sorry, but I'm really not in the mood today. They should be up in the next day or so.
